VB Schema: A Metadata Schema for Virtual Building Models

This study proposes a new metadata schema (VB schema) to manage and synchronize virtual building models (VBMs) that mathematically represent the physical behavior of buildings in a digital twin (DT) environment. To enable the continuous digital twinning of VBMs, they must be managed through various virtual sub-models, such as behavior, correction, and distance models. However, existing metadata schemas have limitations in describing operational building behaviors of VBMs within DTs. Consequently, the proposed VB schema is built on the mathematical and semantic ontology of in-situ modeling and calibration approaches and is linked to physical entities, data, and applications. The main components of the schema include the determination of classes for operational data and virtual models, establishment of interaction relationships between model and data entities, model classes, model and physical entities, and model and applications, definition of properties for each model class, and extension into the Brick schema.
